| NEAR-INFRARED
SPECTROSCOPY NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy is a process for measuring how NIR light (750nm-2500nm) interacts with various molecules (e.g. water, fat, protein and glucose) in human tissue. Each type of molecule reacts differently (i.e. absorbs NIR light) when exposed to NIR light. The amount of light absorbed is proportional to the concentration of that particular molecule. NIR spectroscopy is used heavily in industry as a method of quality and process control due to its inherent advantage of being non-destructive and fast. |
